I absolutely LOVE this computer!
I bought this little laptop because I have a large "desktop replacement" 17" widescreen also which has become too large to bring to meetings, classes or seminars I may go to and I noticed many other executives using this Sony TX model so when I received it I was pleasantly surprised at the weight, the outstanding color and brightness and I get tons of comments on how practical and helpful it is in meetings! I bought another one recently for my husband as I originally bought him a Sony UX which is too small and not very practical which I'm now returning and he absolutely loves his Sony TX too. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! You can get add-on memory directly from [...] for a great price too!
Great portable computer
I got this computer about a week ago and I absolutely love it! It is incredibly small while still being practical. Probably not a great computer for anyone with limited vision, but otherwise perfect. Great for anyone who needs to take their computer with then without adding a ton of weight. Perfect for students to take to class. Highly recomended.
The Best Itty-Bitty Laptop
It is undeniable that Sony makes a good (but expensive) laptop. The TX750 meets my needs and looks great. The standard battery life is decent, expect around 4 hours under normal circumstances. The extended battery will last for maybe 7, but it adds a significant amount of weight and bulk to the laptop. The newer TX Vaios have a longer standard battery life and some other upgraded features, but cost a few hundred more. It's up to you. I primarily use this laptop for school, so it's more than sufficient as the pricey, glorified word processor I use it as.

The screen is bright and crisp. I haven't really watched many videos on it, but so far, everything looks great. Performance meets expectations for the price and specs. Windows loads fairly fast and I haven't had too many problems with programs freezing up. The charcoal graphite lid is a cool touch, but after lugging it around for a few months in my school bag, it has started to get scuffed and a bit unsightly looking. I recommend a protective case if you plan on abusing it at all. The keyboard can be a little tough to read in dim lighting due to the black on silver lettering, but it isn't that big a deal to me.

Overall, I would say the TX750 delivers pretty good bang for the buck, but power users may prefer one of the newer releases for the added memory and battery performance. The price of this model has come down a bit since I bought mine, so I would say it is the perfect choice for students or casual traveler users.

Customer Reviews

An excellent choice.
Before settling on this laptop, I considered similar units by Dell and HP. Dell couldn't compete in terms of price/components, and HP is a disaster when it comes to customer service. I called Toshiba twice before my purchase (spending considerable time discussing three options with one rep) and twice since I bought the computer. It never took more than a minute to talk to someone, and today it was like 10 seconds. That put Toshiba right on the top of my list. So far, I am very pleased with this computer. Its two major drawbacks are battery life (I will be buying a 12 cell backup) and a cd tray which appears to be rather delicate. Boot time is not stellar, but it never is. With the 1024 MB of Ram, it is a fast computer, and the 120 GB hard drive should be more than enough for most people. The computer loads many unneeded programs (the Toshiba tech went through the entire list with me and we eliminated 18 of them), and you may want to remove a program or two from the hard drive. I have yet to try Wi-Fi, so I can't speak to that. Buy a wireless mouse that plugs into one of the USB ports on the side of the computer, and you will be happy (Microsoft has a nifty one that runs on a single AA battery).

UPDATE: I now have Wi-Fi up and running with a Linksys WRT54GL router, and it works like a charm. There were some issues, however, related to Windows and to the IP address of my laptop. I made a number of additional calls to Toshiba tech support, and I cannot overstate how impressed I was with it, especially because they answer the phone very quickly and call back as promised.
Great System with Some Light Leakage
I have to be up-front here - I bought a different model Toshiba - the M105-S3041, from Amazon last month. This laptop, the M105-S3064, uses the same case and display as my laptop. I was initially very happy with it. However, I must caution any potential buyers that the LCD on this system has a lot of light leakage. Otherwise a great little system for the money, though.
No Problems Here. Loving It!
I'm not sure what caused the previous reviewer to experience problems out of the box, but I'd recommend returning it for a different machine.

Mine was a breeze setting up out of the box once I realized there's an On|Off switch for wireless access. And, while it does come with a good bit of bloatware, it was all easily removable. There are a few other pre-installed programs (like Yahoo! Music Engine) I'm going to try out for a few days before deciding whether to ditch them or not, but still far less crud than has been shipped with my previous computers.

The keyboard has a nice feel to it. I've always preferred a laptop's keyboard since I have small hands, so I haven't had any trouble adjusting to this one. The key-click sound is rather nice, too: not as loud as a regular PC keyboard, yet loud enough to let you know your strokes are working. In fact, I spent 3 hours writing yesterday evening and didn't notice any additional errors in my typing.

I'm not a fan of touchpads, though, so I added a USB Wireless mouse. This machine ships with updated drivers, so it instantly recognized the mouse which meant I was off and clicking in no time.

Unlike my old Dell laptop, this one allows me to turn off the touchpad when using a mouse, and that makes me very happy. (I hate it when my thumb accidentally launches a program while I'm in the middle of something.) Another neat feature about the touchpad: you can set certain corners of it to launch various programs. Not a feature I'll use, I think, but still pretty cool.

The fingerprint reader is sweet since it's the one thing that ensures I finally (FINALLY!)have a computer that neither my husband nor kids can tinker with. There's even a quick switch if I need to step away that will blank the screen and require a fingerprint swipe to resume. I love that! I can't tell you how many times in the past I've sat down to start writing or blogging only to find that someone either screwed with my desktop (a minor peeve), read my email and forgot to mark it as "unread" so I knew to answer it (a rather large annoyance) or, worse yet, downloaded something that’s screwed up my entire PC (a major peeve). Not anymore. This laptop is mine, mine, all mine! Bwahahahahahaha!

Long-Lasting Battery
The 13-inch MacBook Pro now includes a newly engineered lithium-polymer battery that that lasts up to 7 hours on a single charge thanks to advanced chemistry, intelligent monitoring of the system and battery, and Adaptive Charging technology. The battery is built right into the computer, eliminating the space-consuming mechanisms and housings that standard removable batteries require. This non-removable battery also provides a longer battery lifespan of up to 1000 recharges--meaning fewer depleted batteries and less waste, which is better for the environment.
Giving it a lifespan of up to 1000 recharges required breakthroughs in battery technology. Apple electro-chemists developed advanced chemistry that maintains the battery's charging capabilities longer than ever. And while most notebooks wear down their batteries by charging them at a constant rate, the 13-inch MacBook Pro takes a different approach. Using an Apple-developed technology called Adaptive Charging, a microchip on the battery constantly communicates with the computer to determine the optimal way to charge its cells, adjusting the current up and down depending on a variety of conditions. Combined, these advancements offer a dramatic improvement in battery lifespan: more than three times the lifespan of typical notebook batteries--up to five years.
Intel Core 2 Duo Processor
Experience improved energy efficiency, expanded wireless connectivity, and amazing battery life with the 2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, which has a super-fast 1066 MHz front-side bus (FSB), and an large 3 MB L2 cache. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance. The FSB carries data between the CPU and RAM, and a faster front-side bus will deliver better overall performance.)
The hafnium-infused circuitry--which reduces electrical current leakage in transistors--conserves even more energy, giving you more time away from the wall outlet. With 3 MB of shared L2 cache, data and instructions can be kept close to the two processor cores, greatly increasing performance and allowing the entire system to work more efficiently. And, because the processor cores share the L2 cache, either can use the entire amount if the other happens to be idle.

Environmental Considerations
Apple has worked hard to eliminate many of the toxins that are a common part of computer manufacturing. Apple engineers removed the majority of brominated flame retardants (BFRs) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) from circuit boards, internal cables, connectors, insulators, adhesives, and more in the MacBook Pro. Because Apple makes both the hardware and the software for the MacBook, they're designed to work together to produce a smarter product that uses less electricity. For instance, to reduce energy consumption, the hard drive spins down automatically when inactive. MacBook Air also decides which processor--CPU or GPU--is best suited to efficiently perform a task. The LED-backlit display in the MacBook Pro is another feature that plays an important part in conserving energy, consuming 30 percent less power than conventional LCD displays.
